Original German WWII Rural Police Dress Bayonet with Frog and Knot
Up for sale is a beautiful and original German WWII Rural Police Dress Bayonet . This bayonet is a very fine example with natural and consistent wear throughout the entire piece. Great detail can even still be noted around the eagle head and cross guards. Originally made by E&F Hörster Solingen, this bayonet is also unit marked with L.D. 36 or Landjagerei Dusseldorf weapon number 36.
The scabbard shell is a very nice rich brown color matching to the bayonet. The shell does show some use with scratching and aging consistent with that of the leather frog. The leather frog, still attached to the upper lug, also has remanence of the original Rural Police knot which has deteriorated over time.
Before Hitler came to power in Germany, the German police force was scattered and operated by various states. The Schutzpolizei during this period were issued longer dress bayonets which consisted of 18 inch blades and stag grip handles. After the Schutzpolizei came under SS management, one of the many changes enacted were to cut the 18inch bayonets into 13inch bayonets, remove the bayonet clamshell and of course to replace the German police insignia! This bayonet is the result of this transition. A very fine Rural police dress bayonet!
TO NOTE: The Bayonet Scabbard is missing one pin which allows the scabbard to come apart.
